Newcastle United have reportedly submitted an official bid for CA Osasuna winger Víctor Muñoz, as Head Coach Eddie Howe looks to rebuild his frontline following the departure of Anthony Gordon. According to football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Magpies have formalised their interest in the 22-year-old Spaniard on June 12, 2026.
Negotiations are currently active between both clubs and the player’s representatives to reach an agreement for the explosive attacker.
The proposed transfer package is reportedly worth an initial €30-35 million (£26-30m) plus add-ons. If completed at this price, the deal would comfortably smash Osasuna’s previous record sale, which has stood since 2007 when Raul Garcia joined Atletico Madrid for €13 million.
Muñoz has seen his market value skyrocket from €5 million to €30 million over the last season, making him one of the most sought-after young talents in La Liga.
Despite the high valuation, the deal is complicated by financial ties to Muñoz’s former club. Real Madrid reportedly retained a 50 per cent sell-on clause when they sold the winger to CA Osasuna for €5 million last summer.
This means the Spanish giants are owed half of any fee Newcastle pays, a factor that is significantly inflating the price Osasuna are demanding to ensure they retain adequate funds for their own recruitment.
Tactical shift following Anthony Gordon departure
The pursuit of Muñoz comes as Newcastle United aggressive summer window continues. The club already confirmed the €28.5 million signing of goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims earlier this week. While Manchester United have prioritised defensive investments this summer, Howe is focused on restoring the “fast and explosive” wide play that defined Newcastle’s best spells under his tenure.
Muñoz is primarily a left winger but is capable of operating on either flank or as an advanced forward. His arrival would bring much-needed technical quality to St James’ Park, particularly as Mohamed Salah faces a career-defining choice at Liverpool that could further shift the balance of power among Premier League attacks.
Newcastle scouts have reportedly been impressed by the Spaniard’s ability to thrive even in a struggling side.
Academic pedigree from Madrid and Barcelona
Víctor Muñoz possesses a rare youth pedigree, having spent time in the academies of Spain’s two biggest clubs. Though born in Barcelona and spending a brief spell at Barcelona’s youth team in 2017 at age 13, he has progressed through Real Madrid’s academy ranks since the age of 17.
He eventually starred for Real Madrid Castilla before making the move to Pamplona to secure first-team football.
In the 2025/2026 La Liga season, Muñoz made 34 appearances for CA Osasuna, contributing six goals and two assists. These domestic performances earned him a senior international debut for Spain in March 2026. He made an immediate impact on the international stage, scoring in a 3–0 friendly victory over Serbia, further cementing his status as a “top target” for Premier League recruitment teams.
The Magpies are hopeful that Muñoz can follow in the footsteps of Alexander Isak, who adjusted seamlessly to English football after arriving from Real Sociedad. As fans across the country monitor the latest international football updates, Newcastle officials are working to close the gap between their valuation and Osasuna’s asking price.
If successful, Muñoz would represent a cornerstone of Newcastle’s strategy to reclaim a place in the Champions League.
