Bangladesh posted a total of 274 for 5 against Australia on Sunday, June 14, 2026, as the hosts look to complete a historic 3-0 series whitewash at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Following an early top-order collapse in Mirpur, half-centuries from Towhid Hridoy, Litton Das, and Mosaddek Hossain anchored a resilient innings after the home side won the toss and elected to bat. Bangladesh already secured their first-ever ODI series victory against Australia by winning the first two matches of the current series.

The innings got off to a difficult start when Soumya Sarkar was dismissed for 2 in the opening over. Stand-in captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, leading the side because regular captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz is recovering from a concussion, contributed 24 before departing.

Despite the early setbacks, a 51-run second-wicket partnership between Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Shanto helped steady the ship before the middle order took control under the afternoon sun.

Towhid Hridoy top-scored with 83 runs off 88 balls, recording his 13th ODI fifty. He shared a crucial 92-run stand for the fourth wicket with Litton Das, though some reports suggested the partnership reached 95 before Das was forced to retire hurt.

Das eventually finished unbeaten on 58 from 78 balls, marking his first fifty in the ODI format at this venue. Watching such emerging talents rise is a common theme in the latest sport news updates regarding the global growth of the game.

Middle order partnerships frustrate Australian bowling

The momentum continued through a 90-run fifth-wicket partnership between Hridoy and Mosaddek Hossain. Unlike previous collapses, the Bangladeshi middle order remained composed against an Australian attack that struggled with discipline. The visitors conceded 29 extras, a significant figure that included 18 wides, giving the home side free runs during critical phases of the match.

Mosaddek Hossain provided the late-innings acceleration, finishing with a quickfire 56 not out off just 51 deliveries. His knock included five boundaries and a six, ensuring Bangladesh utilised their full 50 overs effectively. This clinical approach mirrors the preparation and execution often discussed in recent sports news updates from other major international fixtures.

Australia’s bowling effort was led by Xavier Bartlett, who claimed 2 for 42, while Matt Renshaw also picked up two wickets for 44 runs. Ben Dwarshuis, included in the squad alongside all-rounder Oliver Peake to replace Matthew Short and Nathan Ellis, finished with figures of 1 for 55.

Leading spinner Adam Zampa went wicketless, conceding 48 runs as the pitch failed to offer the expected turn for the visitors.

Quest for a clean sweep in Mirpur

Josh Inglis is captaining Australia in this final fixture after regular skipper Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of the series with an ankle injury. The Australians are desperate to avoid a 3-0 sweep, having lost the first match by 86 runs and the second by five wickets via the DLS method.

The current total of 274 matches the competitive nature of the first ODI played on this same surface.

If Bangladesh successfully defends this total, it will mark their fourth 3-0 sweep in ODI history against major opposition. Previous perfect series results include a victory over New Zealand in November 2013, a sweep against Zimbabwe in October 2018, and a 3-0 result against the West Indies in January 2021.

This match represents a landmark opportunity for the national team to further establish their dominance at home.

With 274 on the board, the pressure now shifts to the Australian batting lineup. Given that Bangladesh has already secured the series, the hosts are playing for pride and a historical footnote. The Mirpur surface traditionally becomes more difficult for batting as the game progresses, providing a significant advantage to the Bangladeshi spin attack as they defend their target.
