The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Junior Cricket Selection Committee, led by chairman Sharath Sridharan, officially named Anvay Dravid in the India Men’s U19 One-Day squad on Thursday, June 11, for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
Anvay Dravid, the 17-year-old son of former India captain and T20 World Cup-winning head coach Rahul Dravid, joins the 15-member One-Day contingent as a specialist wicketkeeper-batter.
The tour, which spans from July 4 to July 23, 2026, marks the first major outing for the age-group side following their victory at the Men’s U19 World Cup earlier this year.
Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan has been appointed to captain both the One-Day and Multi-Day squads, with Lakshya Raichandani serving as his vice-captain for the duration of the trip.
The selection of Anvay Dravid follows a productive domestic season where he proved his mettle for Karnataka, finishing as the highest run-scorer for the state in the 2023-24 Vijay Merchant Trophy.
The budding talent has already had a taste of high-level junior cricket, having represented the India U19 B squad during a triangular series in late 2025.
Anvay Dravid earns selection after dominant domestic performances
Anvay Dravid has spent the last year establishing himself as one of the most consistent technical batters in the junior circuit. During the most recent Vinoo Mankad Trophy, he captained Karnataka to the quarterfinals, accumulating 220 runs across six matches. His standout performance was an unbeaten 82 against Himachal Pradesh, a knock that showcased the same patient temperament often associated with his father, Rahul Dravid.
This news comes just as other sports stars are facing pivotal moments in their respective fields, such as when Mohamed Salah faces career defining choice regarding his future in professional football. For Anvay Dravid, the choice has always been cricket, and his selection follows in the footsteps of his elder brother, Samit Dravid.
While Samit Dravid is an all-rounder who previously made his mark in the KSCA Maharaja Trophy, Anvay Dravid has carved out a niche as a reliable man behind the stumps.
