The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Junior Cricket Selection Committee, led by chairman Sharath Sridharan, officially named Anvay Dravid in the India Men’s U19 One-Day squad on Thursday, June 11, for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

Anvay Dravid, the 17-year-old son of former India captain and T20 World Cup-winning head coach Rahul Dravid, joins the 15-member One-Day contingent as a specialist wicketkeeper-batter.

The tour, which spans from July 4 to July 23, 2026, marks the first major outing for the age-group side following their victory at the Men’s U19 World Cup earlier this year.

Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan has been appointed to captain both the One-Day and Multi-Day squads, with Lakshya Raichandani serving as his vice-captain for the duration of the trip.

The selection of Anvay Dravid follows a productive domestic season where he proved his mettle for Karnataka, finishing as the highest run-scorer for the state in the 2023-24 Vijay Merchant Trophy.

The budding talent has already had a taste of high-level junior cricket, having represented the India U19 B squad during a triangular series in late 2025.

Anvay Dravid earns selection after dominant domestic performances

Anvay Dravid has spent the last year establishing himself as one of the most consistent technical batters in the junior circuit. During the most recent Vinoo Mankad Trophy, he captained Karnataka to the quarterfinals, accumulating 220 runs across six matches. His standout performance was an unbeaten 82 against Himachal Pradesh, a knock that showcased the same patient temperament often associated with his father, Rahul Dravid.

This news comes just as other sports stars are facing pivotal moments in their respective fields, such as when Mohamed Salah faces career defining choice regarding his future in professional football. For Anvay Dravid, the choice has always been cricket, and his selection follows in the footsteps of his elder brother, Samit Dravid.

While Samit Dravid is an all-rounder who previously made his mark in the KSCA Maharaja Trophy, Anvay Dravid has carved out a niche as a reliable man behind the stumps.

The One-Day squad consists of 15 players who will participate in a three-match series starting in Hambantota. Anvay Dravid is one of two designated wicketkeepers in this format, alongside Rajat Baghel. The team will arrive in Sri Lanka on June 30 to begin their final preparations.

India Men’s U19 Multi-Day squad details

While Anvay Dravid is only featured in the white-ball component of the tour, the BCCI also confirmed the roster for the longer format. The Multi-Day squad includes several overlaps with the One-Day team but features different wicketkeeping options in Manav Krishna and Aryan Sandesh Sakpal. This squad will contest two matches in Galle and Colombo.

Much like how the Manchester United reshape defense with high-value signings, the BCCI is clearly looking to rebuild its youth defensive and batting depth through this tour.

  • Sagar Virk
  • Lakshya Raichandani (Vice-Captain)
  • Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan (Captain)
  • Patel Kush
  • Manal Chauhan
  • Kushagra Ojha
  • Manav Krishna (Wicketkeeper)
  • Aryan Sandesh Sakpal (Wicketkeeper)

Itinerary and venues for the Sri Lanka tour

The visiting Indian side will open their campaign at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota on July 4. The One-Day series concludes after three matches, giving the players a short break before the Multi-Day format begins in the historic coastal city of Galle. The tour will culminate with a four-day match at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in the capital city.

The full match schedule is as follows:

  • July 4: 1st One-Day Match — Hambantota
  • July 6: 2nd One-Day Match — Hambantota
  • July 9: 3rd One-Day Match — Hambantota
  • July 13-16: 1st Multi-Day Match — Galle
  • July 20-23: 2nd Multi-Day Match — Colombo

For Anvay Dravid, this tour represents a vital opportunity to step out from the shadow of his famous surname. His previous tally of 357 runs in the Vijay Merchant Trophy at an average of 45 suggests he has the technical foundation required for international cricket.

With the eyes of a cricket-crazy nation watching, this tour of Sri Lanka will be the ultimate test of his readiness for the next level.
