Alex Pereira has dismissed the impact of his former kickboxing rival, Artem Vakhitov, joining forces with Ciryl Gane ahead of their heavyweight collision at UFC Freedom 250. The bout, scheduled for June 14, 2026, will see Pereira attempt to capture the interim UFC Heavyweight Championship.

The highly anticipated contest is set to take place on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C., marking one of the most unique settings in promotional history.

Alex Pereira, a former two-time UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and former UFC Middleweight Champion, remains unbothered by the scouting assistance Gane is receiving. Artem Vakhitov holds the distinction of being the last man to defeat Pereira in the kickboxing ring, having secured a majority decision victory at Glory 78.

However, Pereira argues that his evolution in mixed martial arts has made their past encounters largely irrelevant to the current landscape.

The Brazilian standout stated on June 7 that kickboxing and MMA are entirely different sports, noting that he is no longer the same fighter who faced Vakhitov.

“I have evolved a lot,” Pereira remarked, suggesting that an honest assessment from Vakhitov would simply lead the Russian to warn Gane about the sheer toughness of his opponent. This fight serves as a pivotal moment for “Poatan” as com/makhachev-welterweight-title-defense-july-2026-analysis/”>Makhachev targets two-division glory elsewhere in the promotion, highlighting the current trend of champions seeking historic multi-division status.

Artem Vakhitov identifies defensive openings in Pereira

Artem Vakhitov has been vocal about his role in helping Ciryl Gane understand how to dismantle the Brazilian striker. The former GLORY light heavyweight champion believes that while Pereira possesses “stone hands” and effective striking, his defensive game remains his primary vulnerability. Vakhitov has been reviewing his own footage to show Gane where Pereira leaves himself open during his aggressive offensive bursts.

According to Vakhitov, many of Pereira’s opponents fail because they are intimidated by his knockout power and fight off the back foot. The Russian specialist has advised Gane, a natural 265-pounder, to utilize his size and pressure to dictate the pace. Vakhitov suggests that by closing the distance and forcing a high-tempo fight, the French fighter could secure a quick finish on June 14.

Vakhitov also noted that Pereira’s physical transition to the heavyweight division might work against him. He observed that “Poatan” has put on significant weight for his debut at 265 pounds, which could hinder his speed. This technical focus on striking adjustments mirrors other high-level matchups on the horizon, such as when Israel Adesanya faces Joe Pyfer in a bout expected to showcase elite tactical striking.

Ciryl Gane brings statistical edge to interim title bout

Ciryl Gane enters the South Lawn with a professional record of 13 wins and 2 losses. The former interim UFC Heavyweight Champion remains one of the most efficient strikers in the division, boasting a 60% striking accuracy and landing 5.11 significant strikes per minute. His ability to maintain a high defensive rate of 63% significant strike defense will be tested against Pereira’s vaunted power.

The Frenchman’s strategy appears to involve utilizing his natural heavyweight frame to prevent Pereira from finding his rhythm. While Pereira has dominated smaller weight classes, Gane’s experience at 265 pounds provides a different structural challenge. The technical battle between Gane’s fluid movement and Pereira’s “stone hands” remains the central narrative of the co-main event.

Beyond the interim heavyweight title clash, the card features a massive lightweight title fight between Ilia Topuria and interim champion Justin Gaethje. Fans can stay informed on the broader landscape of combat sports and global events through the latest sport news updates as the promotion prepares for this historic D.C. event.
