Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, secured his third consecutive victory on Sunday at Pocono Raceway, drastically reducing Tyler Reddick’s lead in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings.

In a tactical performance at the “Great American Getaway 400,” Denny Hamlin held off Tyler Reddick to win his record-extending eighth race at the 2.5-mile track. The result leaves Tyler Reddick, who drives the No. 45 23XI Racing Toyota, with a 19-point cushion over Denny Hamlin after 16 points-paying races.

The race start was moved forward to 1:00 p.m. ET to avoid forecasted storms in the Long Pond area. This logistical shift, facilitated by Prime Video’s flexibility, did not hamper Denny Hamlin, who has now won four races in the 2026 campaign.

His recent streak, including wins at Michigan International Speedway and Nashville Superspeedway, has seen a 129-point gap nearly evaporate. Tyler Reddick currently sits at 704 points, while Denny Hamlin has climbed to 685 as the field prepares for an upcoming street course race at Naval Base Coronado.

William Byron finished third in his Chevrolet, while John Hunter Nemechek earned his first top-five finish of the year by placing fourth. Driving for Legacy Motor Club, John Hunter Nemechek led laps and showcased the technical strength of the Legacy camp following their partnership with Joe Gibbs Racing. Erik Jones also benefited from the form, finishing in the top six.

Denny Hamlin extends Pocono record with dominant performance

The victory at the “Great American Getaway 400 Presented by VISITPA” was Denny Hamlin’s eighth at the Pennsylvania venue. He maintained an average speed of 136 mph throughout the 160-lap contest, which featured five cautions for 23 laps. While Denny Hamlin crossed the finish line 1.

678 seconds ahead of Tyler Reddick, other contenders found the strategy more difficult to manage. The win marks a significant shift in momentum for Joe Gibbs Racing as the season reaches its midway point.

Christopher Bell provided a resilient performance in the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota despite racing with a broken wrist. He sustained the injury during the previous week’s crash at Michigan but attempted a fuel-saving strategy that saw him leading with 10 laps remaining.

However, Christopher Bell ran out of fuel with five laps to go. This dropped him to a 26th-place finish in the race, though he remains 10th in the overall standings with 421 points. He noted that the injury was most challenging during restarts and in heavy traffic.

Chase bubble shifts for Austin Cindric and Erik Jones

The Chase for the Cup standings saw movement as the postseason cutoff approaches. Austin Cindric currently occupies the 16th and final Chase spot with 355 points. He is now tied in points with Erik Jones, who was the weekend’s biggest mover.

Erik Jones jumped three positions in the standings to 15th, holding the tie-breaker over Austin Cindric. This high-pressure environment is typical of top-tier sports, similar to how Israel Adesanya faces Joe Pyfer in a matchup where every tactical error has heavy consequences.

Brad Keselowski suffered the most significant blow to his playoff hopes at Pocono Raceway. After a DNF, Brad Keselowski fell two spots in the standings to 17th. He now sits just four points below the Chase cutline with 351 points.

This volatility in the middle of the pack has also impacted Joey Logano, who dropped one spot to 18th. With 20 races remaining in the season, the margin for error for those on the bubble has essentially disappeared.

Middle order movement and the legacy of Kyle Busch

Pocono proved a difficult outing for several drivers in the top 15. Carson Hocevar and Bubba Wallace both dropped two positions in the championship standings. Carson Hocevar now holds 9th place with 449 points, while Bubba Wallace sits in 13th with 394 points.

Both drivers lost ground to rivals like Chris Buescher and Daniel Suarez, who each gained one position. The pursuit of points remains relentless, mirrored in other sports where teenager Littler leads technical drills to stay ahead of the competition.

NASCAR officials have also continued to follow the decision regarding the late Kyle Busch. Before his passing, Kyle Busch had scored 217 points in the 2026 season. Per the governing body’s directive, his name is no longer classified in the weekly active driver standings.

Other notable changes further down the leaderboard saw John Hunter Nemechek rise two spots to 26th. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. also climbed one position to reach 22nd in the standings after the 400-mile race.

The Cup Series now turns its attention to an entirely new challenge: a street course at Naval Base Coronado. For Tyler Reddick, it is a chance to defend a lead that has shrunk to less than 20 points. For Denny Hamlin, it represents an opportunity to take the championship lead. The No.

11 Toyota team has established itself as the most dangerous force in the field after three straight wins.
