Justin Gaethje has vowed to end the undefeated streak of Ilia Topuria as the two prepare to headline UFC Freedom 250 on the South Lawn of the White House. During a high-tension final faceoff held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, the challenger dismissed his status as a betting underdog.

“I will take his ‘O’ from him,” Gaethje told the gathered crowd in Washington, D.C., referring to the champion’s perfect professional record. The 37-year-old veteran and the 29-year-old Ilia Topuria were kept apart by UFC CEO Dana White to prevent further conflict before the main event.

The final faceoff followed a volatile encounter just one day earlier. During the press conference on Saturday, June 13, Ilia Topuria shoved Gaethje, surprising officials and forcing security to intervene. Because of this physical altercation, Sunday’s ceremonial event featured a notably larger gap between the two lightweights.

While the combatants faced off at the presidential residence, the preceding official weigh-ins took place at the Lincoln Memorial. This historic card marks the first time a professional sporting event has been staged on the White House grounds.

Ilia Topuria enters the Octagon with a flawless 17-0-0 record and a firm grip on the undisputed lightweight title. He remained more subdued during the Sunday ceremonies compared to his aggressive arrival in the capital.

The champion spoke about his vision for the future, claiming he would achieve the “American dream” by securing his 18th professional victory. His confidence has defined his rise in the sport, reminiscent of how Israel Adesanya faces Joe Pyfer in a battle of established dominance against new pressure.

Justin Gaethje embraces the underdog role in D.C.

Justin Gaethje, who currently holds a record of 27-5-0, noted that he thrives when the public counts him out. He stated that he enjoys the “added pressure” of the unique environment and intends to prove that his opponent is “just a human.”

Known as “The Highlight,” Gaethje has positioned this match as his definitive opportunity to claim undisputed gold. The intensity of this rivalry reflects the high stakes often seen in the lightweight division, similar to how Islam Makhachev targets two-division glory in his pursuit of a lasting legacy.

President Donald Trump, who celebrates his 80th birthday today, reportedly requested the presence of heavyweight veteran Derrick Lewis on the card. Lewis is scheduled to face Josh Hokit in the seventh and final bout of the evening.

The heavyweight faceoff proved to be the most volatile of the weekend, as security had to pull Hokit and Lewis apart before their session escalated. This friction followed a peculiar press conference performance by Hokit on Saturday that appeared to further incense the veteran Lewis.

UFC CEO Dana White booked the Lewis-Hokit matchup as a late addition to the “UFC Freedom 250” lineup, which coincides with Flag Day. The event commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

To facilitate the broadcast, TKO President Mark Shapiro and White House spokesperson Davis Ingle coordinated the assembly of a 4,000-seat temporary arena. The structure features an 87-foot Octagon and a custom lighting rig nicknamed “The Claw” that towers over the South Lawn.

Logistics of the White House fight card

The main card for UFC Freedom 250 is scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM ET, with preliminary fights starting earlier at 4:00 PM ET. Fans have long debated the cultural impact of major UFC stars throughout the promotion’s history, a conversation that often includes how com/rousey-vs-carano-ufc-impact-analysis-2026/”>Rousey and Carano shaped the modern era of the sport. Sunday’s event adds a new chapter to that history by bringing mixed martial arts to the seat of American executive power.

The staging on the White House grounds features red, white, and blue aesthetics and massive video screens for the limited live audience. While Ilia Topuria looks to maintain his invincibility and move to 18-0, Justin Gaethje is focused on the singular goal of ruining that perfect record. As the sun sets in D.C.

, the question remains whether the veteran’s grit can overcome the champion’s youth and momentum. If Justin Gaethje succeeds, he will have delivered the most significant victory of his 32-fight career.
