In a recent clash at UFC Abu Dhabi, Marlon Vera faced off against Deiveson Figueiredo. Fans had high expectations for a thrilling showdown, and the fight certainly delivered excitement. However, some critics are now questioning whether Vera truly had his best showing in the Octagon.
Figueiredo emerged victorious by decision, leaving many to wonder what the future holds for Vera. In a candid reflection, Vera has shared his thoughts on the bout and raised concerns about the officiating.
In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Vera discussed his feelings about the fight and what he believes was an unfair element. On his Chito Vera Podcast, he revealed some insights about his preparation and the bout itself.
Marlon Vera Claims Deiveson Figueiredo Should Have Had a Point Deducted for Dirty Tactics at UFC Abu Dhabi
“Me and the team definitely came to the conclusion that we came back too soon,” Vera explained. “I went into a grueling five-round battle with the champion. After my March title fight, we all agreed that returning would be smarter in either November in New York or December. There was no reason to come back earlier. I think that was a mistake, on my part. It would have been much wiser to stick to the original plan. But, it is what it is.”
Reflecting on the fight with Figueiredo, Vera described it as “pretty close” and “very competitive.” Yet, he highlighted a specific moment that troubled him. Vera pointed out an incident that he feels was overlooked by the referees.
“The axe kick he landed in the first round wasn’t an accident,” Vera said. “It went straight to my face. I believe that should have resulted in a point deduction. According to the rules, you’re not supposed to kick an opponent who is on the ground. If that point had been deducted, the outcome might have been different. But, it is what it is.”
This comment has sparked discussions among fans and analysts alike. Vera’s frustration is understandable, as many fighters feel that the fairness of the fight can hinge on the officiating and adherence to the rules.
As Vera moves forward in his career, these reflections might influence his approach to future fights and his preparation strategies. The controversy surrounding this bout adds another layer to an already dynamic and competitive sport.
