Great Crossing Park will soon be home to two additional tennis courts and eight pickleball courts as Scott County Fiscal Court put projects out to bid at Friday’s meeting.
The site for the courts has already been graded, according to Scott County Judge Executive Joe Pat Covington. The court expressed hope construction could move quickly.
“I’d like to get it done this fall,” Covington said.
The tennis courts will allow Scott County Schools to host high school tennis matches, as they will have six courts at the site once it is finished, Covington said.
The court also approved the purchase of equipment for a disc golf course in Scott County Park. The Frankfort disc golf association helped the court with a plan for the course.
“If you go and do disc golf it is going to take you throughout half or three-quarters of the park,” Georgetown/Scott County Parks and Recreation Director Drew Beckett said.
“What made me very impressed was the placement of the tee boxes, they put them in shaded areas under trees,” Covington said. “You have to go around trees, you have to go over water, but the placement is not interrupting anything else.”
The high estimate of the cost for the course was $18,000, Covington said, and the money is already in the budget.
— The court discussed the county’s short-term rental ordinance, and possible improvements that could be made to prevent “nuisance houses,” but took no action.
The current ordinance is used as a good example at conferences, Georgetown/Scott County Tourism Director Lori Saunders said.
—Georgetown/Scott County Emergency Medical Services is currently fully staffed, Jeff Mudrak said.
