When the Olympics is set to be hosted at the City of Love, romance fills the air. But where love is won, it can be lost too. The 2024 Paris Olympics became a tear-jerking journey for tennis gold medallists Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac. The tennis mixed doubles couple were a couple in real life too. But recently they called it quits. That didn’t change anything or so it seemed because, despite the emotional journey of participation, the couple paved it through to settle for nothing but the gold. They locked horns with China’s Wang Xinyu and Zhang Zhizhen and won the gold medal. They received their medals together and shared an emotional moment with each other.

In a world where ex-flames can hardly ever remain friends, this couple chose to be on the same side despite their differences for the greater good. The result? A gold medal at the Olympics, no less. Beyond the silver lining, the couple prove that with mutual respect and similar goals, they don’t settle after seeking the silver lining because a pot of gold awaits at the end of the rainbow. (for them quite literally)
When the match point was won, Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac exchanged a kiss in front of thousands of spectators and cameras at the Philippe-Chatrier court. A photo of the pair sealing their win with a kiss was shared on X (formerly Twitter). If anything, the picture-perfect moment proves that despite personal turmoils Katerina and Tomas share a close connection.

The emotional scenes prompted social media users to ponder whether Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac could reconcile. Katerina and Tomas neither declined nor confirmed the speculations. In a post-match press conference, Katerina told the media, “That’s our personal life. So, you don’t need to know that.” The nine-time Grand Slam winner added, “I’m really happy that we won and I’m really proud that we fought together, and that we helped each other.” Tomas was also not keen to share any details of his personal life. “This is top secret. In red words: Top Secret,” he said.
Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac were in a relationship in 2020 before announcing their separation, reported Le Parisian. When Katarina was asked about whether her parting ways with her partner could result in potential consequences in the Olympic tournament, she revealed that we’re “professionals” and hence would “play together”, as quoted by Essentially Sports.
Whatever their decision, Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac have put forward a fine display of love for the greater good deserving of every gold medal there ever was.
