“No boxing, no life.” While Canelo Alvarez says it, that’s the mantra Edgar Berlanga lives by. But it’s not entirely true. He holds something else more close to his heart than beyond a pair of boxing gloves—his son. The two have been inseparable since Chosen Berlanga‘s birth, and fans often catch a glimpse of their special bond on the Brooklyn native’s social media handle. This time, he made another heartwarming but more grand gesture for his son.
Berlanga, 27, doesn’t shy away from expressing his love for his son, who often finds his mention on his social media handles. In one of the Instagram posts, Berlanga had the caption, “A son is the clearest reflection of his father in the world. I LOVE YOU KID ❤️ “CHOSEN BERLANGA”.” More recently, the 22-0 record-holder celebrated his son’s third birthday with a WWE theme, calling him “the greatest kid in the world.” He is not short of such gestures and seized eyeballs when he made a custom chain with ‘Chosen’ spelled on it.
Sharing the post on his Instagram handle, ‘The Chosen One’ also posted a video of him interacting with his son and sharing a wholesome moment. Berlanga could be heard saying in the clip, “Chosen, this is my son’s name, right here. So when he gets probably like six years old, I give him this chain.” In addition, the caption read, “From father to son, the legacy of ‘The Chosen One’ lives on.”

Interestingly, Berlanga’s nickname is ‘The Chosen One’, and his son’s name could very well be a nod to his moniker. It seems he wants to extend his fighting legacy to his son. That’s not all. As the Brooklyn native fights Alvarez next on September 14, he looks to his son for the added zeal and passion to put on a show.

Edgar Berlanga finds motivation in his son
Berlanga has admitted that his son gave him motivation. Stressing on his duty as a father, he declared, “I brought him into this world, and I’m teaching him from scratch. So it’s my duty to make him the man I want him to be. And obviously better than me. But yeah, he’s pure motivation for me. I just look at him every morning when he’s up and I’m like, yeah, I got to go get it. If I don’t do it, nobody’s going to do it.”
The orthodox boxer is coming off a splendid win against Padraig McCrory this February, where he showcased why he is highly rated. His Puerto Rican heritage adds allure to the fight as the promoters look to bank on the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry. But the fans will soon witness whether Berlanga has what it takes to hand Alvarez the third defeat of his career.
