Big Game Motorsports driver David Gravel moved forward every time he competed last week during the 63 rd annual NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s.
Gravel qualified eighth quickest to open his preliminary night at Knoxville Raceway last Wednesday. He then advanced from seventh to sixth place in a heat race and from seventh to fourth place in the B Main to garner the final transfer position into the feature with a last-lap pass.
Gravel charged from 24 th to 15 th in the A Main. His nine positions gained were the second most.
Once preliminary points were tabulated, Big Game Motorsports missed a lock-in spot into Saturday’s main event by only six positions. That lined Gravel up on the outside of the third row in the B Main. He gained a trio of spots to finish third, earning a transfer into the 50-lap main event for the 12 th straight year that the event has been contested. Gravel continued passing in the feature as he rallied from 19 th to 12th. It was the fourth-most positions gained.
The 12th-place finish was Gravel’s sixth-best outing during the event.
Another marquee event is on tap as the team heads to Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., this Friday and Saturday for the 46 th annual FENDT Jackson Nationals. Gravel enters with a 98-point lead in the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series championship standings.
