Members of a Devon cricket membership are “devasted’ and “heartbroken” after a fireplace destroyed their clubhouse.
Devon and Somerset Hearth and Rescue Service stated crews have been referred to as to the blaze at Heathcoat Cricket Membership’s wood cricket Pavillion close to Tiverton at 05:22 BST, and located the constructing totally engulfed by flames.
Membership members stated the constructing – located within the grounds of the Nationwide Belief’s Knightshayes Courtroom – had been utterly destroyed.
The hearth service stated the reason for the blaze was not but identified.
Chris Salter, one of many group captains on the membership, advised BBC Radio Devon he was “devastated” to listen to what has occurred.
“I awoke at 06:30 to the information.
“I have not seen it – I am undecided if I wish to go and see it, “he stated.
“Everybody who’s a part of the membership completely loves it.
“It is such a group hub for all of us, and to go and see it at this stage – I do not suppose I am fairly prepared but.”
Devon Cricket Basis Managing Director, Matt Theedom, stated: “Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to everybody related to Heathcoat Cricket Membership.
“Having supported the membership and witnessed the onerous work, blood sweat and tears that went into constructing the clubhouse, it’s heartbreaking to see.
“I’ve little doubt that the Devon Cricket group will rally round to assist Heathcoat and its members at this distressing time.”
A Nationwide Belief spokesperson confirmed Knightshayes Courtroom had now reopened to guests, however the parkland automotive park remained closed.
They added the hearth was at the moment being investigated by the police.
Heathcoat cricket membership is likely one of the largest cricket golf equipment in Devon, following a merger with Sampford Peverell and Tiverton Cricket membership final 12 months.
