I was openly rooting for France to win Olympic Gold in Men’s Basketball. I did not particularly care for the roster of the American team and I also placed a wager pre-Olympics on France at 14:1 and Germany at 30:1 to win. USA was -500 so there was no way I was betting that. I wanted to live a little! But some fellow Americans had an issue with my wagers.
I get it. We live in America. USA Basketball rules. But I will always dislike LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum, Tyrese Haliburton, and many others. They also didn’t invite Knicks star PG Jalen Brunson. So in-line with my sports allegiance (the Knicks), I refused to cheer on those players. I instead chose to follow my wallet and bet on longshots that could potentially pose a problem to the United States.
Steph Curry sent the US home with an unbelievable performance in the final three minutes and I had to pay the piper today. Nick and Big Cat designed a Citizenship test for me to take and it was not easy. But I did get a bit lucky with my thought process on these two.
With each wrong answer, I had to do something French ranging from eating a baguette, brie cheese, escargot, a croissant, chug two glasses of wine, and more.
In the end, it led up to a final challenge. I was given 2 minutes and 15 seconds to make 4 consecutive 3-pointers, just as Steph Curry had. If I was unable to succeed, I either: wouldn’t be allowed to shower for a week OR would have to stream a French movie and give a review each night. The stakes were high. But much like Wardell Curry, I’ve got the clutch gene too.
