Derek “War Chisora the beloved British journeyman is almost at the end of his rope. The man himself said he has 2 more fights left before he calls it quits. In his last outing Chisora pulled off a stunning upset against contender Joe Joyce beating him by unanimous decision. It was the best performance that Chisora has had recently turning the clock back years. He just couldn’t miss Joyce he landed almost every right hand manging to hurt and drop Joyce. An was an excellent win for Chisora but what’s next?
The Derek Chisora Retirement Plan Fight 1
So after the emphatic victory and having only 2 fights left what is next for Chisora? Well with a win over a top 10 heavyweight Chisora has a large amount of options. Chisora’s goals at this point are primarily just financial the man wants the big money fights. There’s no way on earth he’ll get a title fight and the very top of the division is log jammed. Fury and Usyk are busy and the winner of AJ vs Dubois will also likely be busy so that takes them out.
But, the loser of AJ vs Dubois could make sense for Chisora. An all British match up involving Chisora vs either AJ or Dubois would sell especially after beating Joyce. However, the isn’t the best option mainly because at this stage AJ and Dubois are leagues above Joyce. AJ and Dubois hit far harder than Joyce, are more athletic than Joyce and far more dangerous for Chisora.
Some more reasonable that would make money for Chisora is the Dillian Whyte trilogy. Chisora and Whyte so far have had 2 great fights. Their first fight was close and went to a decision with Whyte getting the nod. However, many fans thought Chisora won. The rematch was also highly contested but this time Whyte secured an emphatic KO victory with his famous left hook. Since then both men have deteriorated Whyte having the better career overall but like Chisora is near the end. A 3rd fight between the 2 is guaranteed fireworks. And it is winnable for Chisora given how close the first 2 fights were and now that Whyte’s chin has gotten worse over the years.
The Derek Chisora Retirement Plan Fight 2
As for the 2nd fight there are a few British prospects who are coming up that could be winnable and entertaining fights. And even if he were to lose it could be a passing of the torch moment from the older to the younger generation. One prospect who would make sense is Johnny Fisher the Romford Bull. Fisher has already amassed a decent fanbase in his young career and is well liked amongst fans.
Fisher is also quite beatable. He does have youth and power but Fisher lacks experience and is yet to face someone of Chisora’s level. Fisher is hittable and Chisora can still crack and has the ability to land. Chisora with his experience also knows a couple of veterans tricks to make Fisher have a tricky time getting to him.
Another prospect who makes sense but is slightly more dangerous is Fabio Wardley. Wardley is a wild unrefined young prospect who has been making a name in the UK. Despite his youth, power, and ferocity he too also is beatable. Wardley has a leaky defence allowing himself to be hit quite a bit Wardley often coming out of fight with a bloody or cut nose. Wardley has also had some good wins and could go on to do well in the future so a win over Wardley could age very well.
Regardless of how his next fights go for Chisora he should retire. He has had a good career and by the time he’s done should have enough money in the bank to secure himself and his family for the foreseeable future. There is a concern about he will be put in there with but hopefully he and his team are smart enough to pick winnable fights for the aged Chisora.
