Boys golf, girls tennis moving to fall sports season in Iowa for 2025-26 | Sports

(KMAland) — The boys golf and girls tennis seasons are moving to the fall sports season beginning in the 2025-26 school year.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union made the announcement on Monday morning. The change was approved at a joint meeting of the IHSAA and IGHSAU boards in early July.

In addition, the IHSAA Board of Control approved the following changes:

•Basketball: The closely guarded “five seconds” rule will be eliminated starting in 2024-25.

•Basketball: Substate final games in 4A and 3A will be hosted by the higher-seeded team.

•Bowling: The individual state tournament will bowl out to eighth place, similar to the team tournament.

•Bowling: A potential split season for boys and girls bowling was discussed.

•Golf: Three teams advance from each round of the postseason in 3A, 2A and 1A with no regard for home course.

•Tennis: Consistent scoring is coming to the postseason, including ad scoring, best two out of three sets and a 10-point super tiebreaker in the third set.
